Auggghhhh.... what is that sound! Oh God it's 4am. I wonder if there is anyone around to handle my bags. It's DARK out there and the moon is still shining on the water. Who's idea was it to get to Heathrow Airport by 11am?
And we are off, really early on Aegean Airlines from Corfu to Athens and then Athens to London. But let's not stop there. I hopefully arrive Heathrow in time to catch a bus for Cambridge... to celebrate Queen Elizabeth II's Jubilee. www. Believe it or not I was there for her coronation 60 years ago.... I have the mugs and all to prove it. Tonight is bonfire night and over 2000 bonfires will be lit around England. A tradition of communication from very early times. Only way to tell the story long distance was to send a fire... faster than a horse and rider. In the US we call it 'smoke signals'.
And we made it in time for the Jubilee Barbecue. I landed at Heathrow (Terminal 1) and made a dash out of baggage claim to the Central Bus Station to catch a bus (2 1/2 hours) for Cambridge. Not to be confused with Oxford, Cambridge is northeast of London headed into East Anglia and towards the North Sea. True to form my childhood playmates (now the same age as me) meet the bus waving Jubilee flags and off we go to a family and friends Jubilee barbecue. RW&B flags, balloons and all sorts of appropriate decorations make for a glorious late afternoon sit in an English garden with children, dogs and good friends.
In case you were not counting we did 3 airports, 2 planes and a coach size bus today. We started at 4am and pulled into the village of Burleigh at 3:20 p.m. Exhausted, I turned in at 10:30 pm with the incredibly comforting feeling of being home.

Nice picture of the Fox, is that Peter and me having a beer just inside the window? Ed Callaghan
ReplyDeleteMorning.... so good to hear from you. Penny and I have been up on the gallops and then Peter dished up a huge breakfast before we head off for Cambridge. Peter says that you have both enjoyed a few at the Fox.
